Untitled by Lucas Thivierge

The house was a mess; there was shattered glass and personal items all over the floor. Someone had broken into Mike and his sister Michelle’s house. A lot of Mike’s recording equipment was either stolen or destroyed. Michelle’s valuable items were also either stolen or broken.
They couldn’t chance another break in, Mike had no other choice but to have an alarm installed. Mike called a technician from an alarm company and asked him if he could come and install the alarm today. A couple of hours later a technician arrived at the house, the technician was wearying dirty clothes and looked like he hadn’t shaved for weeks. His van didn’t look any better, it was grey and parts of it were rusting.
“Come in.” said Mike, he welcomed the smelly technician into the house.
“Where do you want me to install the alarm?” asked the technician.
“Just by the door.” said Mike pointing to a part of the wall beside his first gold records. Mike knew Michelle wasn’t very good with technology so he got a simple alarm system that even she could use. He even used a password that she could never forget, 1984, the year she was born.
Mike and Michelle were busy try to get their record company back up and running. They worked all day and night repairing the equipment that was damaged. During the next couple of weeks, Mike was busy producing bands he had signed to his record label.
Mike and Michelle were in one of the bigger clubs in the area, they were scouting unsigned artists. They were about to give up when a girl stepped up onto stage with her band and played an power ballad. Mike and Michelle were impressed with the band’s performance and invited them to their table in the corner of club and talked to them about a record deal. “I’m getting tired” Michelle announced “I’m going home.” She grabbed Mike’s car keys. It was a dark night and Michelle feared she wouldn’t be able to stay awake so she stopped at a nearby 7/11 and bought a cup of coffee.
She arrived home and noticed the alarm wasn’t even on. She cursed Mike for buying something he wasn’t using. She walked up the stairs and a man jumped out in front of her, she didn’t have enough time to react, the man grabbed her and covered her mouth with a cloth. She fell unconscious.
Mike returned a few hours later, drunk. Once he entered the house the phone rang. Mike didn’t want to answer the phone so he ignored it and went to bed. The next morning Mike cooked breakfast. “ Michelle.” he called. “Breakfast is ready.” There was no answer from her. “Michelle.” he called again. She always answered him when he called her. He went to go see if she was in her room, but she wasn’t there. Mike saw blood on the floor of her room. He was worried about what might have happened to her. He called the police but they wouldn’t help him until tomorrow. He called Michelle’s cell phone but there was no answer. Mike went into the living room and saw a tape on the coffee table. There was dried blood on the tape and Michelle’s name was on it then put it on. He saw Michelle, she was tied to a chair and was blood was dripping from her mouth, nose and forehead. She was crying. Next he saw a man wearing a mask. He started beating Michelle. Mike couldn’t take it and was about to turn it off until the man started to speak. “If you want to see your sister again you will bring $5,000,000 to Huntington High School tonight. If you don’t, the next time you see her she won’t be in one piece” said the man. His voice was distorted, it was deep and raspy. Mike was shocked. He went to his sake and took out a 40 mm pistol. He then went to the bank and took out the money he needed to get his sister back.
The day went by quickly and was now dark out. He got into his car and drove to Huntington High School. The school had been abandoned a long time ago and no one drove by it because it was located in the outskirts of Huntington Beach. Mike was at the high school but he didn’t know where he was supposed to meet the man who took his sister, the man didn’t tell him where. He walked around the building, all the doors were locked.
A car had driven into the parking lot and parked beside Mike’s car. A man got out, he opened the passenger door and brought out Michelle. The man was all in black. Mike couldn’t even see his face. The man took a gun out of his belt and pointed it at Michelle’s head. “Where’s the money?” asked the man, his voice still distorted. “Let her go first.” said Mike. “Give me the money!” yelled the man. He shot Michelle in the leg. Michelle cried out in agony. “Give me the money!” he yelled again. Michelle grabbed the man’s mask and took it off. She got shot in the leg again. Mike pleaded with the man to stop shooting her then noticed that he was the technician who installed the alarm “Now give me the money!” Mike threw the bag towards the man. The man picked it up and saw the money inside. Mike took Michelle. The man pointed the gun at them both. Mike instantly took Michelle and jumped behind a dumpster. The man shot at them but missed. Mike took out his gun then bullets started flying. The man fired multiple shots towards the dumpster then had to reload. Mike knew this was his chance and shot him in the arm. The man cried out in agony and dropped the gun. Mike took it then went to check on Michelle. He went behind the dumpster and saw that she had been shot many times and was motionless. She was dead. Tears started coming out of Mike’s eyes. He walked back towards the man. Mike shot the man, he kept shooting him every couple of seconds until the clip was empty, making him suffer. Mike didn’t know what came over him. He dropped the guns and started crying.
